Choosing a Location
- The number one cost saving consideration when deciding to build a facility is choosing a proper location.
- Choosing a quiet location is always preferable, but that alone does not guarantee a vibration free building.
- You can design to contain internal sound and to mitigate external airborne noise, but structural vibration requires specific construction techniques.
- This may not be so critical if you are mostly involved in rock & roll, rap etc., and do not mind upsetting the neighbors, but may be critical if you are recording voice-overs or are building a night club in a residential area.
- When evaluating a space for a studio, or a theatre, it is a good idea to spend considerable amounts of time at different times of day and night to listen. Put your ear to walls and floors to check for low frequency vibration as well as listen for all other forms of airborne noise.
